ABOUT THE WEATHERIZATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Benefits

Weatherization provides energy efficiency services at no cost to the homeowner or renter that are tailored to each house for maximum cost savings. Families receiving weatherization services see their annual energy bills reduced by approximately $250 to $450.

  • Wall insulation
  • Attic insulation and ventilation
  • Foundation insulation
  • Air leakage reduction
  • Dryer venting installation
  • Free smoke detectors
  • Free carbon monoxide detectors
  • Please Note: The Weatherization Assistance Program does not include funding for structural repairs (roofs, windows, doors), plumbing, or electrical repairs. To clarify, this is not an emergency or a home repair program.

Home Eligibility (Determined During the Home Assesment)

  • Home is not eligible for Weatherization if it was weatherized in the past 15 years
  • Home cannot be weatherized if it has one or more of the following deferral reasons:

    – Roof is damaged

    – Asbestos

    – Active knob & tube wiring

    – Visible mold or standing water in the basement

    – Major areas of infiltration (missing drywall, windows, etc.)
  • Client must provide access to their basement and attic in order to receive Weatherization services
  • Please note: Weatherization is a multi-step process that can take several months to complete.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Any Form of Government ID
  • City, State or Federally issued, or Passport for all household members 18 years of age and older.
  • Current Water Bill
  • Lease Stating Responsibility for Water
  • Only Non Detroit Residents with Resident, Occupant, Tenant, etc. on bill.
  • Proof of Income
  • (if applicable), 30 days prior to and including the date of application submission (Pay stubs, Unemployment, Child support, and Benefit statements: SSI, DHS, etc.)
  • OR Actively Receiving One of the Following:
  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
  • Food Assistance Program/ Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (FAP/SNAP)
  • State Emergency Relief (SER)
  • Social Security Supplemental Income (SSI)
  • Weatherization Assistance

Income Guidelines for Those Eligible:

The program offers energy efficiency services that are custom tailored to your home, helping you save as much money as possible.
