Property Tax Assistance

Wayne Metro offers multiple forms of Property Tax Assistance for Detroit homeowners and residents of Wayne County.

Food Supports

Distributing food and Personal Protection Equipment.

Water Residential Assistance Program (WRAP)

WRAP is a two-year program that provides funding to eligible low-income households to assist with water bills, water conservation, and self-sufficiency initiatives.

Water Affordability Programs

Wayne Metro has additional water programs available. The Water Affordability Program and the Local Water Utility Affordability Program. Both programs provide direct water bill payment assistance to eligible residents who have a financial burden, a past due balance, water service shut off, and/or at risk of having their water service shut off.

DWSD Lifeline Plan

The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) Lifeline Plan is Detroit’s new water affordability program. Receive an affordable fixed bill based on household income and size, and get up to 1,125 gallons of indoor water usage per household member per month.

Weatherization Assistance Program

The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) reduces energy costs for low-income households by increasing the energy efficiency of homes and ensuring residents’ health and safety.

Head Start & Early Head Start

Supports the well-being and development of children from birth to age five by focusing on education, nutrition, medical and health care, parent involvement, and family support services.

Summer Programs

Our Accelerate to Great programs are offered to youth in grades K-12 throughout Wayne County, providing them a safe space to learn, play, and socialize after the school day comes to an end.

Learning, Excelling and Parenting Successfully (LEAPS)

Family Literacy Program that partners with adult learners of children ages 0-8 to support and strengthen these essential elements of the family.

Michigan Energy Assistance Program (MEAP)

A preventive program designed to provide energy assistance to low-income households so that they can reach energy self-sufficiency.

Tax Preparation Program

Provides free tax preparation services to residents of Wayne County and surrounding communities. Available year round at several locations with a wide range of convenient office hours.

Financial Coaching

The Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) offers professional, one-on-one financial counseling as a free public service to enable residents to address their financial challenges, needs, and plan for their futures.

Financial Education

Wayne Metro provides a wide variety of interactive and fun learning opportunities at no cost.

Emergency Plumbing Repair

Due to the high demand, the plumbing program is currently at capacity. Should new funding become available, we will reopen the application. We appreciate your understanding.

Housing Stability & Counseling Services

Comprehensive educational classes that cover topics such as budgeting and credit, landlord tenant rights, as well as the entire home buying process.

Out-Wayne County Continuum of Care (CoC)

The Out-Wayne County Continuum of Care (CoC) is a local planning body with a mission to end homelessness in the Out-Wayne County area. We work with the homeless and those at-risk of homelessness to identify housing and service needs while providing access to both. 

Domestic Violence Services

Wayne Metro serves survivors of domestic violence by providing short- or medium-term housing stability assistance and providing additional support as they rebuild their lives.

Supportive Services for Veteran Families

SSVF Case Managers will assist Veterans and their families to obtain VA or other public benefits, childcare, transportation services, mental health, and substance abuse treatment, and opportunities for skill building, job training, and education. 

Supportive Housing & Homeless Services

Wayne Metro’s Supportive Housing & Homeless Services (SHHS) programs aim to empower individuals and families experiencing or at-risk of experiencing homelessness with the solutions to achieve housing stability and long-term self-sufficiency.

Metro Detroit Flood Recovery Project

Wayne Metro is offering disaster assistance to residents that have experienced flood damage in their homes due to the
June 25-26, 2021,
torrential rains.
