Why Get Involved?

We provide over 60 services in the areas of education, income, and housing. Our services include financial counseling, homeownership workshops, housing counseling, financial counseling, utility assistance, Head Start early childhood education, GED preparation, free tax preparation, foreclosure prevention, and homeless services.

Description
  • Program allows parents and guardians to assist with food service and nutrition activities while receiving flexible scheduling and hands-on experience. Volunteers support meal service operations while learning about nutrition, safety, and CACFP compliance. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out our registration form, and someone will be in contact with you. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at volunteers@waynemetro.org.
  • Assist with meal prep, portioning, and classroom food transport
  • Help with menu planning and simple inventory tasks
  • Participate in nutrition education and cooking experiences
  • Learn ServeSafe and CACFP meal pattern requirements
  • Support dietary and allergy-safe meal practices

Description
  • Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency partners with Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan to help provide nutritious food and resources to families in the community. Through this partnership, food distributions are organized to support families experiencing food insecurity. Volunteers help by assisting with setup, organizing food, and supporting the distribution process to ensure families are served in a welcoming and efficient way.

  • Volunteer with Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency Head Start to read to classrooms in your Community. Bring the love of reading to a classroom and engage in our student's learning.

  • Help keep our babies healthy and dry! Join our monthly diaper distribution and ensure that babies are cared for! Join us on the fourth Wednesday of every month and help distribute diapers and wipes to our Wayne Metro families in need! This is an outdoor distribution so please dress for the weather.

  • Help keep our senior neighbors stay nourished! Our monthly food distribution needs volunteers to pack and place food boxes in cars. This opportunity takes place outside.

Description
  • PURPOSE OF JOB: Plan and purchase home health and hygiene supplies for families moving into a new home after experiencing homelessness. Able to raise or provide own funds to purchase supplies.
  • TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED: 2.5 Hours Including:
    + 15 minute virtual Wayne Metro Volunteer Orientation, which can be scheduled any weekday
    + 2 hours estimated to complete job duties
  • DUTIES:
    1. Collect funds for purchasing below supplies.
    2. Purchase supplies:
    1 laundry basket
    1 container laundry soap
    1 bottle dish soap
    4 bath towels and 4 wash cloths
    Family size each of shampoo, conditioner and body soap/wash
    3. Optional supplies that could also be purchased: feminine hygiene products, products for African-American hair, deodorant
    4. Put all supplies into the one laundry basket.
    5. Call to arrange basket pick-up
  • QUALIFICATIONS: Able to raise or provide own funds to purchase party supplies.

  • PURPOSE OF JOB: Plan and purchase back-to-school supplies and put them in a backpack. Backpacks will go to either children and youth served by our Housing Services or school-based Whole Family Support Services. Volunteers need to be able to raise or provide own funds to purchase supplies.
  • DUTIES:
    1. Collect funds for purchasing the below supplies:
    -Back Pack
    -24 Pack Pencils
    -Pencil Sharpener
    -24-Pack Crayons
    -Loose-leaf paper
    -Optional Supplies:
    -12 Color Pencil Pack
    -Folder(s)
    -3-ring binder(s)
    -Scissors
    -Calculator
    -Hand Sanitizer Liquid or Wipes
    2. Put Supplies into the backpack
    3.Email volunteers@waynemetro.org to arrange backpack drop-off.
  • QUALIFICATIONS: Able to raise or provide own funds to purchase party supplies.
