DESCRIPTION:If you cannot pay your property taxes for financial reasons\, you may be able to reduce or eliminate your property tax obligation – both current year taxes and any delinquent taxes.  \nThe Detroit Tax Relief Fund is a new assistance program that will completely eliminate delinquent property taxes owed to the Wayne County Treasurer’s Office for Detroit homeowners. \nThe first step to accessing property tax relief through the Detroit Tax Relief Fund is to apply for the Homeowner’s Property Tax Assistance Program\, commonly known as the HPTAP\, with the City of Detroit.  \nWhat is a HPTAP? \nHPTAP stands for Homeowners Property Tax Assistance Program. It is also referred to as the Poverty Tax Exemption\, “PTE” or Hardship Program. The HPTAP provides an opportunity for homeowners to be exempt from their current year property taxes based on household income or circumstances. The application is an annual application\, homeowners must apply every year. \nDo I qualify? \nEligibility for the HPTAP is based on whether you own and occupy your home as your primary residence and your household income or circumstances. Most homeowners whose income is below the guidelines are generally approved. \n \nHow can I get started with an application? \nThe application can be completed online or downloaded for printing at http://detroitmi.gov/hptap.  \nWhere can I get help with completing an application? \nThe HPTAP Counseling Network\, Wayne Metro\, and the City of Detroit have partnered to bring you many opportunities to help you with the HPTAP application process. Visit hptap.timetap.com to schedule your Virtual\, In-Person\, or hybrid appointment!   \nAdditionally\, on select days\, additional services will also be available such as water and utility assistance.
