Giving Tuesday is an international day of giving at the beginning of the holiday season.
#GivingTuesday harnesses the potential of social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities; it provides a platform for them to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address local challenges. It also brings together the collective power of a unique blend of partners— nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals—to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness.
Wayne Metro participated in Giving Tuesday by raising money on Donorschoose.org, a crowd sourcing website focused on helping classrooms get underfunded resources. We had not one, but two separate Donorschoose.org campaigns funded by people all over the United States!
Our two campaigns raised a total of $2,224! Each donation was matched by the PNC Grow Up Great Program. The PNC Grow Up Great Program provides innovative opportunities that assist families, educators and community partners to enhance children’s learning and development, particularly in underserved communities.
Our campaigns centered around Special Needs preschool students in our Head Start and Early Head Start Programs. They work to overcome hearing and speech impairments and psycho-social disorders including ADHD, autism, and anxiety. Soon they are ready to thrive in kindergarten and beyond!
This money will go towards the purchase of calming and sensory aids like visual timers and weighted blankets to help students that have a hard time transitioning between activities and calming for rest.
