Intake and Referral Services

Wayne Metro’s Information and Referral Call Center employs five full-time staff members that are the point of entrance into the Wayne Metro service delivery system. Direct Service Specialists identify client needs and provide information and referral to both agency and community resources including utilities, rent, mortgage, food, clothing, and other general assistance.

 

The Call Center’s hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, excluding holidays. Callers will have the option of leaving a message or speaking directly with a Direct Service Specialist.

Utility Assistance

 

Wayne Metro’s Emergency Utility Assistance Program provides assistance to individuals and families that have received a shut-off notice from their utility company.

Wayne Metro’s Walk for Warmth event raises funds to support this program. During the event, hundreds of walkers raise funds while walking through Westland Mall in Westland. Walkers can participate as individuals or start teams to be eligible for special awards.

Food Assistance

 

Wayne Metro partners with local food banks, churches, and other social service agencies to provide access to food and some non-food items. When available, Wayne Metro issues food vouchers that can be utilized at participating grocers throughout Out-Wayne County.

Wayne Metro offers Energy Education Classes that provide practical ways to save energy, understand a utility bill, and reduce energy costs. In addition, simple tips to make a home more energy efficient and lower utility bills are explained.

Michigan Benefits Access Initiative (MBAI)

 

Wayne Metro can assist individuals and groups in accessing and navigating the MI Bridges website. Participants can learn how to access to stay updated on their DHS benefits at anytime. Call (734) 284-6999 for more information and to set up an appointment.
