Hundreds Gather to Walk for Warmth!
2009 Walk for Warmth a great success!

Wayne County Executive, Robert Ficano and several other elected officials were on hand to kick off Wayne Metro's 13th Annual Walk for Warmth.
Over 400 supporters participated in Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency’s 13th Annual Walk for Warmth on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Southland Mall in Taylor. The event raises money for the Agency’s Emergency Utility Assistance Programs.
Walkers enjoyed entertainment provided by DJ Ralph, a puppet show and free face-painting. Awards were also given to both adult and youth teams with the highest team total, biggest team of walkers, best team name and those demonstrating the most team spirit. Stephen Czarnik won a luxurious 2 night stay at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa for the highest individual pledge.
“Even in these tough economic times, we had a great community turnout” said Louis Piszker, Wayne Metro CEO. “Our Agency has seen an over a 40% increase in request for utility assistance in the past year. Utility Assistance Programs are desperately needed and often overlooked. Wayne Metro is proud to support over 1,000 families facing heat-related emergencies each year.”
Wayne Metro’s Utility Assistance Programs support families in the 42 communities comprising Out-WayneCounty. The Walk is Wayne Metro’s only fundraising event and all proceeds go directly to families in need of assistance.
Wayne County Executive, Robert Ficano kicked off the event as Co-Chair of the Walk. Several elected officials were also in attendance to show their support: Mayor Gary Burtka (Allen Park), Tony Lalli (Mayor Pro-Tem, Allen Park), Mayor Frank Vaslo (Lincoln Park), State Representative Andrew J. Kandrevas, State Representative Douglas Geiss, Commissioner Monica Martinez and Mrs. Debbie Dingell represented Congressman John Dingell’s support.
Wayne Metro sincerely appreciates the support of presenting sponsor, Daly Merritt, Inc. and all community partners.
