Second Annual
Project Homeless Connect
Serves Hundreds
The Out-Wayne County Homeless Services Coalition provided services to over 200 homeless individuals during their 2nd annual Project Homeless Connect event. The two-day event held on November 4th at Faith Recovery Center in Lincoln Park and November 6th at the Wayne County Family Center in Westland offered a variety of services and information.
Those that attended the event received free meals (breakfast and lunch), flu shots, HIV tests, winter clothing and hygeine kits. A number of local oganizations were available to provide addtional resources and information.
The Project Homeless Connect evens were part of the Coalition's observation of Michigan's Homeless Awareness Week, November 9-15. Homeless Awareness Week serves to promote awareness of homelessness in our communities and bring organizations together to improve the delivery of services.
The event would not have been possible without the donations received by local businesses, including: Secret Recipes (Taylor), Tim Hortons (Taylor), Village Place (Westland), Leon's (Westland), Great Clips (Westland & Canton) and Wayne County Senior Services.
Special thanks to Wyandotte Catholic Consolidated School for the overwhelming donation of over 300 coats for the event, Wayne-Westland Schools for the tremendous amount of hygiene products and all of the fantastic volunteers that donated their time and skills!
