Expectant & New Parents Recieve Information and Gifts at 12th Annual Community Baby Shower

Over 80 new and expectant parents attended the Wayne Metro's 12th Annual Community Baby Shower on Thursday, September 24, 2009. A record number of fathers participated in this year's event. The event was held at Wayne County Community College's Downriver Campus in Taylor.
The shower included several guest speakers that provided valuable information for parents. Gwen Troller and Linda Ward from Wayne County Babies Safe Sleep Program discussed safe sleep information for every newborn. Teresa Hutchinson from Wayne Metro Head Start gave parents tips to create healthy relationships with their spouse or significant other. Nicole DeRemer of the Guidance Center Head Start discussed valuable parenting tips to successfully raise a child.
Each mother also received a gift bag of items to care for their newborn and a voucher for a car seat or gift. Additionally, parents were entered into a door prize drawing for gifts, such as: baby swings, pack and plays, bassinets, strollers, cases of diapers and other essentials for their new bundles of joy.
Special thanks to Elizabeth Ministry of Scared Heart Church in Grosse Ile for hosting the generous benefit baby shower on Saturday, September 19, 2009. Also, special thanks to the Colina Foundation for their support of children in our community!
"We greatly appreciate the support we receive from our donors, community partnes and volunteers who make this event possible. This event grows every year and demonstrates the growing needs of low-income persons and families in the community. Wayne Metro is pleased to assist these families through the Community Baby Shower" said Louis Piszker, CEO of Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency.
